ISEA2008 Juried Exhibition
Aurora Consurgens
Horia Cosmin Samoila (Romania/France) & Marie Christine Driesen (France)
Collaborating with: Mixed Reality Lab
The energy given off by bodies, objects, particles and electrical charges of all kinds produces the electro-magnetic field that surrounds us. An invisible landscape that exists within our more tangible, physical environment. The artists will be developing a method of using technology to detect this electro-magnetic landscape and then visualizing it in the gallery space. In collaboration with technologists, they will be measuring the energy around us, exploring and analyzing this landscape as if it were an undiscovered country. It is a project that is concerned with the ‘impossible’ dream of imagining electro-magnetic landscapes, and the ways in which we can use brainwaves to connect to technology. This landscape is a place of invisible entities; virtual ghosts within (and around) the machines that will now be brought to light.
Horia Cosmin Samoila (Romania/France) is an artist and researcher in the field of electro-magnetic landscapes, his work in this area has manifested itself in video, performance, installation, and other new media projects. He is the founder of Ghostlab.
Marie Christine Driesen (France) explores different kinds of spaces through performance, video and photography. She collaborates with Horia within Ghostlab.
