Quartet
Tad Ermitano (Philippines)
Collaborating with: HOMEVR at Institute of Infocomm Research (I2R)

An interactive video installation that brings together sound and image allowing the viewer to conduct a 'virtual' quartet. Four video screens are arranged in the space, each one playing a different percussive instrument by triggering photo-sensors attached to the screens. In this way video images, traditionally conceived as powerless ghosts, are given the ability to affect and even strike physical objects in the real world. In practice, a member of the audience gestures at the screens. His or her hand gestures are captured by a computer, which then responds by altering the musical behavior of the virtual musicians.
Tad Ermitano (Philippines) is a video artist and sound designer whose single channel videos have been screened at a number of international festivals.
