About the artist / Artist's Statement
A certain pattern emerged...
Living for so many years in South East Asia
(1995 - 2002) has profoundly influenced my works. Main topics are ’finding identity’, viewed in the cross-cultural context and the accelerating changes of our daily life through globalization.
Established codes and values in social and cultural respect are fragmented, enriched, overlapped or even replaced. Individual patterns are unconsciously changed. At the same time we are urging for local conservation, reliable constancy and solid orientation.
For the last 5 years I've been working with a LOMO. This is a small simple Russian compact camera, no flash.
I paint over these photos with Chinese ink, oil or acrylics. Through this technique the stratification of the progressive changes are visualized. A new image emerges over the photographed one.
