About the artist / Artist's Statement

Cynthia Butler Rasche is a mixed media sculptor living in Singapore. She works in fiber-reinforced cement, cast glass, and handmade papers to create painted freestanding walls and rock like relief sculptures with images abstracted from mud brick walls and rock carvings. The sculptures have a primitive architectural form. She applies imagery to the surface of the sculptures to create rich patterns and textures. These sculptures explore concepts of age and the passage of time upon images made by people for ritual purposes or communication. The forms reflect her keen interest in the notions of walls, barriers and passageways. Prior to moving to Singapore in 2001, she made sculpture, exhibited regionally and taught Graphic Design Classes in the Multimedia Design at Northern Oklahoma College in the USA.
